Jesus took our place so that we could go to His.
"I need to be reminded of what is true. God's Word gives me a dose of reality. There is right and wrong; there are consequences for making wrong choices; the Ten Commandments are still the standard of life; I am not trying to repay evil for evil... My morning briefing in the Word goves a perspective that I don't get in the world. I need God's commentary on my life every day. A Christian... in this society swimming upstream. Without the constant nutrition of the Word, he will soon tire and be dragged off by the sheer force of the current."

    Pretty Good Stuff.

"Go in peace," the priest replied. "For the LORD will go ahead of you
    on your journey."
    Judges 18:6 NLT

Doing religion leads to burnout. Living a relationship keeps our
passion alive. In order to live this way we often have to make a paradigm
shift. We have to move from doing religion, to living in a
relationship. We have to move from the destination approach to the journey
    approach.

The journey approach says that life as a believer is a journey. I’ll
never learn all I can know about God. I’ll never get tired of getting to
know Him and spending time with Him. The destination approach assumes
that when you’ve learned all you can learn, done all you can do, you’ve
arrived and there is nothing else to do. Life gets rather boring with
    the destination approach.

Let me give you an example. In my house Cheryl is chiefly in charge of
    clothes washing.
I try to help, but I’m not near as passionate about it as she is.
She’s washing clothes before we get them off our body. Why? Is it because
she loves washing clothes? No, she probably hates it as much as I do,
but she loves for her family to have clean clothes. She views washing
clothes as a part of her “journey” as a mother.

Jesus said it like this, “Where your treasure is there your heart will
be also.” You and I are going to love to do what we love. If you and
I are really into building a relationship with Jesus Christ over a
lifetime, we are never going to get bored with doing so. We’ll continue
to do the things we need to do to build that relationship. I have
watched dozens of marriages fall apart because they stopped building a
relationship and started going through the motions of marriage. It won’t
work in marriages and it won’t in a relationship with Christ

Lately I've found myself in sort of a "spiritual slump". Its nothing new, something that happens every time after a big event where I know that God is near and speaking to me. For me, YEC was an awesome event, and I was convicted, as many of you were to actually "live your faith", and tell show Christ's love to other people. Now, it seems like I couldn't find God if He was in a paper sack. I began to question my search. Was I searching with my whole heart? (see Jeremiah 29:13). I felt that God was "absent" from my life.
Most of you have experienced this feeling before of "where is God?" And we hear same sermons that God is always with us. Most of us tend to mistake God's SILENCE as Him being ABSENT. Although we tend to believe this, the Bible shows us otherwise. Consider Joseph in Genesis 37-42. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, taken to Egypt and became on of Potiphar's slaves. Then, Potiphar's wife took notice to Joseph and tempted Him to sleep with her, Joseph resisted, and she lied and accused him of rape. He was immediately thrown in jail. After years in jail, Joseph met an old cup bearer for Pharaoh and a baker. He successfully interpreted their dreams and the cup bearer was restored to his place next to Pharaoh. Joseph noticing that this could be his chance to get out of prison asked the cup bearer to remember that Joseph helped him and maybe he could "Help a Brother Out!". But, the cup bearer forgot. Go figure.
The crazy thing that I find in this story is that after every explanation of what crap Joseph had to go through, the Bible intentionally states that "God was with Him." Now if I were Joseph I would have probably deserted God a long time ago, yet Joseph remained FAITHFUL. God's plans were bigger that Joseph's plans, and most of you know the rest of the story (God used Joseph to bring the Israelites to Egypt, during a famine, and they eventually became slaves, which led to Moses and the Exodus. CRAZY!!!)
So what was all of that for... REMAIN FAITHFUL! Don't mistake God's silence for his absence, God is always there and He will never leave us nor forsake us (Joshua 1:5). God is silent most of the time so we can grow through those periods. Be encouraged if you feel "stuck spiritual". Being stuck is only a prerequisite for being "UNSTUCK". So remain faithful. Seek God with ALL of your heart. Then you will find Him.

    Jeremiah 29, part 1

April 03, 2006. Mustard Seed Thoughts

"The truth is that you will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:10-11 NLT

You have heard the verse all your Christian life. Maybe it was on a plaque, in a sermon, or placed on a graduation card. I love the verse myself and find great comfort in it. The verse is Jeremiah 29:11. God has great plans for you; plans to prosper you; to give you a hope and a future. As great as these words of encouragement are, they should be read in context of the entire chapter.

God was promising to bless the Israelites, but He had already told them that before they were blessed, they would suffer seventy years in Babylon. They had to suffer with life, before God’s good plans for them would come true. You and I need to learn from this also. Sometimes, really many times, God’s plans for us, which are ultimately good, will take years to come to fruition. In the meantime, God is working on our character, making us more like Christ, and preparing us for the blessings.

There are some lessons we can learn from this passage when we look at it in its entirety. The first, of course, is simply the fact that, even though God has blessings and prosperity planned for us, the journey towards those blessings will not always be pleasant. We live in cultures that want instant everything. We want God’s blessings today! We don’t want Him to make us wait. We really don’t like developing patience.

God’s will for our life, however, often will include hard times. God uses these times to stretch our faith, build our character, and prepare us for what is to come, which is the “plans to prosper us, not to harm us, to give us a hope and a future”.
